Routing lines automatically on a diagram
Automatically route your lines in any diagram type.
You can control the routing of lines in any diagram type by using the Diagram Auto Routing command. Using this command provides a way of moving any of the symbols on your diagram without having the lines drawn over or through the symbols. Whether you move your symbols left to right or up and down the line symbol always routes itself to the outside of the symbol keeping it connected at all times. This command can be enabled or disabled at any time on any diagram type.
Note The preferences setting Immediate Auto Routing overrides the Diagram Auto Routing command. Immediate Auto Routing is used globally across all diagrams in your encyclopedia. Therefore, if you want to only auto route lines on some of the diagrams in your encyclopedia disable this setting. You can use one or the other, not both. Check to see if this setting has been disabled by selecting Tools > Preferences and make sure that the Immediate Auto Routing option is not selected.
1 From the Explorer, select and open the diagram that you want to change.
2 Select Format > Diagram Auto Routing (or right‑click the diagram workspace, and then click Diagram Auto Routing). A check mark is displayed next to the Diagram Auto Routing option.
3 The line style must be set to Straight-Orthogonal for all diagram types in order for this option to take effect.
For each diagram that you open, you can set the lines to be Straight-Orthogonal by selecting all the lines on the diagram and selecing Format > Arrange Lines Orthogonally or right‑click the diagram workspace and then click Arrange Lines Orthogonally.
4 Save the diagram.
