Modeling DoDAF services (ABM for DoDAF)
To build net-centric architectures as prescribed by DoDAF 1.5, you capture the services of the operational and systems architecture. You begin the process of building services by defining a list of service definitions. You can do this by adding service definitions directly to the encyclopedia, or by building SV-4b Service Hierarchy and SV-4b Service Data Flow diagrams.
1 Specify Operational Nodes as service providers, service consumers, or unanticipated users (ABM for DoDAF).
Once you have defined a list of service definitions, either by adding Service definitions directly to the encyclopedia or by building SV-4b diagrams, you must specify the Operational Node types.
See Specifying operational nodes as service providers, service consumers, or unanticipated users (ABM for DoDAF)
2 Build SV-4b services decomposition diagrams (ABM for DoDAF).
You can organize services using an SV-4b Services Decomposition diagram. Each service can belong to a service definition. You can decompose services into other services that are orchestrated together to provide functionality.
See Building SV-4b services decomposition diagrams (ABM for DoDAF).
3 Build SV-4b service data flow diagrams (ABM for DoDAF)
You describe the interactions, or collaborations, between services using the SV-4b service data flow diagram.
See Building SV-4b service data flow diagrams (ABM for DoDAF)
4 View SV-3 Services-to-Services Matrices (ABM for DoDAF)
You can view relationships between Client and Supplier Services in the SV-3 Service-to-Service Matrix.
See Viewing SV-3 services-to-services matrices (ABM for DoDAF).
5 Model services on SV-1 Systems Interface diagrams (ABM for DoDAF)
You can model services on the SV-1 Systems Interface diagram. You can visually specify the systems that perform the services by drawing the services within system entity symbols on the diagram. You can group services into service family symbols on the diagram, and you can also show how services relate to one another by drawing a service interface line between the services.
See Modeling services on SV-1 systems interface diagrams (ABM for DoDAF).
6 Model services on SV-2 Systems Communication diagrams (ABM for DoDAF)
You can model services on the SV-2 diagram. You can visually specify the systems that perform the services by drawing the services within system entity symbols on the diagram. You can also show how services relate to one another by drawing a service interface line between the services.
See Modeling services on SV-2 systems communication diagrams (ABM for DoDAF).
7 Specify services performed by systems in SV-3 Services-to-Systems matrices
You can specify services performed by system entities in the SV-3 Services-to-Systems matrix. Use the SV-3 Services-to-Systems matrix to plot the service definition to the system entity definition in an x-in-cell matrix.
See Specifying services performed by systems in SV-3 services-to-systems matrices.
8 Generate SV-6b reports for publishing services (ABM for DoDAF)
In a net-centric architecture prescribed by DoDAF 1.5, the SV-6 workproduct is used to present service data exchanges modeled in the SV-1, specific information of the service data content, and how it is implemented in the net centric architecture. You can generate an SV-6b report that describes, in a tabular format, the structure of each service data exchange such as availability, capacity, latency, reliability, information assurance, size, format, periodicity, and security.
See Generating SV-6b reports for publishing services (ABM for DoDAF).
