System Architect installation scenarios
System Architect can be installed on multiple computers in your network or on a computer not connected to a network.
Multi-user installations
In a multi-user installation, System Architect is installed to every client computer. If you are not using a network encyclopedia or occasionally work offline, SQL Server Express must be installed on the client computer.
Licensing to use the product is installed on a computer that is always running in the network. The product license does not need to be on each client computer.
Encyclopedias are created on a Microsoft SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Server 2008 Express R2, servers on the network.
Stand-alone installations
System Architect can be installed on a stand-alone computer, that is a computer not connected to the network. To run the product on a stand-alone computer, you must have a valid license. When installing or starting the product, you can specify to use a license file on you local computer or a FLEXnet license server. If using a license server, your system administrator can provide the directory or the server where the license is being administered.
A stand-alone installation allows you to work on encyclopedias using a local instance of SQL Server Express. The System Architect Startup Wizard provides you with the ability to install SQL Server Express to a computer.
