Modules for product management
Modules contain information in a structured set of elements. For example, one module might contain information about business needs and another module contains information about releases. The product management template contains several predefined modules.

Module
Description
Products
The Products module contains the collected business needs of a market. A product is offered to a market to cater to certain requirements. A product can be a service or an object.
Releases
A release is the distribution, whether public or private, of a product or the member of a product line. A release can be the initial version or an upgraded version of the product.
Business needs
A module that stores the list of new feature requests from customers and internal stakeholders
Market Plans
This module is the repository for the documents about the actions that are necessary to achieve a specified marketing objective. Market plans might cover a product, a market, or a release and can cover a year or several years, such as the five year plan. A market plan might be part of an overall business plan. A good marketing strategy is the basis of a well-written market plan. A market plan without a good strategic base not useful.
Customers
Customers use the products. The customer can be either an individual or an organization, depending on the product. With the template, you can differentiate customers as either active or prospective. You can use the template to differentiate customers as active or prospective, so you can include those customers that eventually become customers, or those that do not, but offered significant requirements that you want to consider for the future.
When prospective customers become customers or decide not to be customers, they are linked to Win/Loss reports. The Customers module can contain information about the customers. You can also create login accounts for your customers. Customers that have login accounts are then referred to as external stakeholders. A stakeholder can be a user of Focal Point or someone who is involved in the development process.
Competitors
In this module, you can analyze the organizations that create the competition for your product. Competitor products can be added to the Products module so that you can capture competitive intelligence at both the product and company levels. You can compare your products to competitors so that you can understand the strengths and weaknesses of the products. You can also see the value that they provide to particular markets.
Win/Loss Reports
You can use this module to analyze the reasons why a prospective customer was or was not persuaded to buy the product. Product managers can use this information to improve marketing, development, and sales efforts to cater to the requirements of the potential customers.
Criteria
This module contains the criteria that is used for prioritization, such as the business needs. This module also contains the geographical and industry markets and qualities. You can use criteria to compare markets and qualities and to decide in which modules certain information belongs.
