Linking, creating, and viewing work items
Video: How to link, create, and view work items
Click to watch in new tab.
In Focal Point, you can link to work items or create work items that are added in project areas in a Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) application. You can also search for and view work items in a CLM application project.
Before you begin
A workspace administrator must configure a module to contain a CLM attribute that defines the link to artifacts in a Change and Configuration Management (CCM) application. For example, the module can be named “Business needs”. For more information, see Adding and configuring attributes for storing links to artifacts in the Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management applications.
You must have a user account in the CLM application.
To publish elements to the Rational solution for CLM applications version 4.0, you must add this parameter:
com.ibm.rdm.fronting.server.AllowOSLCPutWithOutIfMatchHeader=true
to this file:
CLM_install_folder/server/conf/rm(context path)fronting.properties
Make sure to set this property even after you reinstall Rational solution for CLM.
You can skip this step for Rational solution for CLM applications version 5.0 as they do not have the fronting.properties file.
Restriction: If the combined length of the characters for the Title and Description attributes exceed 2000 characters, when creating artifacts on the Rational solution for CLM applications, you must copy the content of the Title and Description to the title and description fields of artifact manually.
Remember: If you rename the Rational solution for CLM server, you must change the server name in Focal Point also. After renaming the Rational solution for CLM server, clear the Focal Point cache (click Advanced > Caches > Clear All Caches), rename the server, and clear the cache again.
Procedure
1 In Focal Point, open the element that has the Integration Link attribute to link from.
2 In the row for the Integration Link attribute, click the Edit icon Edit icon.
3 To link to a work item in the CLM application, click Select.
The first time you link to a work item, specify your user ID and password for the CLM application.
In the “Work item selection” window, use the filters to narrow the search for the work item.
In the search results, select one or more work items to link to.
Click OK. The work item title and number are listed in the attribute row.
Click the work item titles to verify that the links are correct.
4 To create and link to a work item, click Create New.
Specify your user ID and password for the CLM application.
Add the required work item details. Ensure that you specify the mandatory attributes for the work item. Depending on the attribute configuration, the description field might be populated with the description from the element.
Click OK.
The work item title and number are listed in the attribute row of the source element.
5 Click the work item titles to verify that the links are displayed in the CCM application, and that links to the element exist.
6 Click Save Save icon to save the attribute value for the element.
To view the work item details, hover your cursor over the work item that is listed as the attribute value.
