Adding Card, Column and Punch information (stage 2)
1 Start Metadata Model to Quantum and from the File menu, choose Open Document. Select the .mdd file that you saved in the previous step and click Open.
The Select Serial Variable dialog opens.
2 Select the question that you created in stage 1 to contain the serial number and click OK.
Starting Column
The first column used for this variable on the Quantum file. If the file consists of multi-card records, prefix the column number with the card number. For example, column five on card two should be entered as 205.
Column Count
The total number of columns used to store data for the variable on the Quantum file.
Punch
For categorical questions only, the punch code for the category.
Col Offset
For categorical questions only, the relative position from the starting column of the column that contains the punch for this category. For example, zero indicates that the punch is stored in the starting column, one indicates that the punch is stored in the column after the starting column, and so on.
4 Repeat the previous step for all the remaining questions in the list.
5 From the Tools menu, choose Preferences. This opens the Metadata Model to Quantum- Preferences dialog.
6 If necessary, amend the settings to match your Quantum file. Note that if your Quantum file contains card numbers, you cannot set the starting column of the card number here—this will be done in stage 3. If your Quantum file does not contain any card numbers, make sure that the Width of card number and Max card length settings are blank.
7 From the Tools menu, choose Allocate Cols and Punches. This opens the Allocate cols and punches dialog.
8 Select Overwrite all cols and punches using my preferences and click OK.
9 Save and close the .mdd file.
