Export Quantum Specification
You use the Export Quantum Specs command to export a Quantum specification for the questionnaire definition (.mdd) file. When you run the command, Metadata Model to Quantum prompts you to enter the location and name of the Quantum .run file. To conform to the Borland 8.3 filename convention, the name of this file must not contain more than eight characters excluding the .run filename extension.
Metadata Model to Quantum creates the Quantum specification as follows:
Specification files
Metadata Model to Quantum creates the specification files in the location you specify when you run the export. The names of the main files are based on the name of the .run file you enter when you run the export, but with different filename extensions (.tab, .qax, .ban, and .n10). However, include files are also created for any numeric grid variables. The names of these files are based on the axis names but shortened when necessary to conform to the Borland 8.3 filename requirement. This means that if you export Quantum specifications for more than one questionnaire definition into the same folder, these grid axis include files will overwrite any that already exist with the same name. It is therefore generally preferable to use a different folder for each questionnaire definition file.
Variable selection
All variables that are selected for export are included in the specification. You can define which variables are to be included in the specification in three ways:
▪By selecting and deselecting individual variables in the Quantum Variable Selection dialog box. For more information, see
Quantum Variable Selection.
If you have added any variables to the Document since you last opened it in Metadata Model to Quantum, unfortunately those new variables are excluded from the export by default. To include the new variables in the Quantum specification, select them in the Quantum Variable Selection or manual allocation dialog box or reapply your rules.
Grid variables
Metadata Model to Quantum creates a Quantum grid axis for each categorical grid variable included in the export.
Length of axis names
If short axis names are selected, Metadata Model to Quantum bases the axis names on the short name shown in the Alias column in the Metadata Model to Quantum window. If long axis names are selected, Metadata Model to Quantum bases the axis names on the longer name shown in the first column. You select the short axis name option on the Quantum tab in the Preferences dialog box. For more information, see
Quantum Specification preferences.
Tip: If you are planning to edit the Quantum spec files and you selected the default folder for the export, it is a good idea to move the spec files to another location. This will reduce the risk of overwriting them if you subsequently export the Quantum specification again.
