View Data Map
The View Data Map command provides a handy way to open the data map file in Excel. For more information about using the data map feature, see
Using the Data Map.
To open the data map in Excel
From the Metadata Model to Quantum menus, choose View > Data Map.
Notes
▪This option is not available prior to running the Export Data Map command in the current session. If you want to view a data map exported in a previous session, you must open the file in Excel in the standard way.
▪The Metadata Model to Quantum data map has been updated to support UTF 8 with BOM characters. You may see extra characters when viewing a data map in Microsoft Excel 2000 or 2003. These extra characters will not pose a problem, and are simply cosmetic (they will not impact the import of the map). This issue is caused by the lack of support for smart quotes in the older Excel versions. You can update your version of Excel using Microsoft Update. This will add Unicode support and the characters will no longer display. You can also use the following steps to resolve the issue when working with Excel 2003:
1. In Excel, select Data > Import External Data > Import Data.
2. In the Select Data Source dialog, select the appropriate, exported Data Map file (*.csv) and click Open.
3. In the Text Import Wizard – Step 1 of 3 dialog, select the Delimited in Original Data Type section. Ensure 65001: Unicode (UTF-8) is selected in the File Origin field. Click Next to continue.
4. In the Text Import Wizard – Step 2 of 3 dialog, select the Tab and Comma options in the Delimiters section. Click Next to continue.
5. In the Text Import Wizard – Step 3 of 3 dialog, keep the default settings and click Next.
6. Click OK in the Import Data dialog.
7. Save the Data Map file (*.csv). The smart quotes will now display correctly whenever the file is opened.
