Comparing metadata documents
In the Metadata Model Compare window, you specify the two metadata documents that you want to compare. The two metadata documents can be two separate .mdd files or can be two different versions or superversions of the same .mdd file.
As you choose each metadata document, Metadata Model Compare displays the document's languages, contexts, label-types, and routing-contexts collections and selects the base item in each collection. You can select additional or alternative items in each collection before you run the compare.
To compare two metadata documents
1 Click the ellipses (...) button next to "Original file" to select the metadata document that will be used as the base for the comparison.
2 Use the Version list box to select the version to be compared. If you select Multiple Versions, a dialog box opens in which you can specify a superversion.
3 Select the languages, contexts, label types, and routing contexts that you want to compare.
4 Click the ellipses (...) button on the right of "File for comparison" to select the metadata document that will be compared with the original file.
5 Use the Version list box to select the version or superversion to be compared.
6 Select the languages, contexts, label types, and routing contexts that you want to compare. Typically, these will be the same as those you selected for the original file.
7 Click Compare.
Metadata Model Compare creates two script files (one for each metadata document) in its temporary folder and then runs your chosen file compare tool to compare these two files.
As well as displaying the differences between the two script files, some file compare tools may allow you to edit the files. Remember that the script files are only temporary files and not the actual metadata documents.
