ReadSoft FORMS field definitions for categorical responses
UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add‑on creates field definitions in ReadSoft FORMS Manager for the responses to categorical questions as follows:
Type
The field type is mark.
Name
Mark fields that belong to the same categorical question are treated as a series. All of the fields in the series have the same name, which is generated from the question name with the addition of a suffix. Each field in the series has an index that identifies it within the series. For categorical grid questions, the mark fields that belong to each subquestion are treated as a series. So, for a grid question that contains five subquestions, there will be five series of mark fields.
Value
Determines the value that is generated in the scanned data in ReadSoft FORMS if the mark field is filled in. If the Transfer Questions As Groups option is selected in the Options dialog box, the value is automatically defined as 1+ for all of the categories in a series. This means that the first category has the value 1, the second 2, the third 3, etc. This value is used internally by ReadSoft FORMS and it does not determine the value used when the data is exported using UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add‑on Transfer, which remaps the values according to those defined in the questionnaire definition.
