Edit Axis dialog box
Use the Edit Axis dialog box to specify how a variable appears in the current table. If you want to make changes that will be stored in the variable for future tables, use the Edit Variable dialog box, which you open using Variables > Edit.
The top part of the Edit Axis dialog box shows the variable’s name and label, which you cannot change in this dialog box. However, you can change the label for the variable in the Edit Variable dialog box.
Beneath the label, this dialog box has two or three tabs, depending on the variable's data type. The information on these tabs defines how the variable will appear in the current table.
To open the Edit Axis dialog box
1 In the main UNICOM Intelligence Survey Tabulation window, select the Define tab.
2 In the graphical area of the Table Definition section, select the required variable.
3 From the Table Definition toolbar, choose the
Edit Axis icon
.
Edit tab
This is the first tab and is available for all variable types. This tab lists the items that will be shown in the table for the variable and makes it easy to add, change, and reorder the items.
Banding tab
This is available for numeric variables only and makes it easy to group the numeric values into categories.
Script tab
This is available for all variable types and shows the axis specification in the form of a script. Advanced users can optionally define the axis specification on this tab.
Notes
▪You cannot edit loops and grids in this dialog box. However, provided you are using the hierarchical view, you can edit their labels in the Edit Variable dialog box (see
Edit Variable dialog box).
▪This dialog box changes how the variable will appear in the current table only. If you subsequently make any changes to the variable's axis expression in the Edit Variable dialog box, those changes will not be applied to this table. (However, if you change the variable’s label in the Edit Variable dialog box, the changed label will be applied to this table next time you populate it.)
