Edit Variable dialog box: Script tab
The Script tab in the Edit Variable dialog box (see Edit Variable dialog box) and the New Variable dialog box (see New Variable dialog box) shows the variable’s axis expression (see Axis expressions) in the form of a script. In the Edit Axis dialog box (see Edit Axis dialog box), the Script tab shows the axis specification for the variable in the current table only. The Script tab is mainly for the benefit of advanced users who are familiar with the axis specification syntax and can safely be ignored by other users.
The Script tab is updated whenever you make changes on the Edit tab or, if it is a numeric variable, on the Banding tab. Similarly, if you edit the axis specification on the Script tab, the Edit and Banding tabs are automatically updated. When using the Script tab, you can click Validate at any time, to check that the syntax is correct.
For detailed information about the axis specification syntax, see Table and axis syntax.
1 You can copy all or part of an axis expression from one variable to another:
2 Select the text you want to copy.
3 Right-click, and from the shortcut menu, choose Copy.
4 Close the dialog box and open it for the other variable.
5 Select the Script tab.
6 Place the cursor in the required position, right-click, and from the shortcut menu, choose Paste.
7 If necessary, change any variable and category names so that they are appropriate for this variable.
