Configuring contexts
You can configure the properties of contexts in an .mdd file. The changes you make here determine how the file appears to users of other applications, and what they can change in the file. You can:
▪add and remove contexts from an .mdd file. Adding a context makes it available for translation in the Translation Utility. Removing a context permanently removes all content for the context.
▪change the default context. Only one context can be set as the default.
▪set up alternatives for a context. When you set an alternative for a context, text from the alternative context is automatically displayed in applications such as the Questionnaire Viewer or UNICOM Intelligence Reporter when no text exists for the original context.
You can use the Translation Utility to enter text for new contexts that you create in MDM Label Manager, either in the source language or in translation.
To add or remove contexts and label types from a metadata file.
1 In MDM Label Manager, open the file you want to edit and click the appropriate tab. Any contexts or label types already defined for the .mdd file are displayed in the list.
2 Click Add.
3 In the Add Context or Add Label Type dialog, do one of the following:
▪Select a standard context or label type from the list
▪Click the Custom context or Custom label type option button and enter a name for the new context or label type.
4 Save the file.
The reserved context names AutoAnswer, mrTranslate, Sav, CarCol, QC, WebApp, and Sif can be added, but are hidden in MDM Label Manager. These reserved contexts are hidden to prevent their modification.
To remove a context or label type
Note that you cannot remove a context or label type if it is set as the default. If you want to remove the default context or label type, you must first set another default.
You cannot delete required contexts, for example the Question and Analysis contexts, and you cannot delete system label types.
1 In MDM Label Manager, open the file you want to edit and click the appropriate tab.
2 Highlight the context or label type you want to remove in the list, and then click Remove.
The context or label type is removed from the .mdd file.
Caution: Removing a context or label type from the .mdd file permanently deletes all content for that context or label type.
3 Save the file.
