Table specification syntax
This section provides full details of the table specification syntax. In most cases, you can create tables without needing to understand the syntax, but for particularly complex tables, you can enter or edit the syntax directly, in the Table Syntax pane, the Filter Syntax pane or the Script pane in the New Variable, Edit Variable, or Edit Table Variable dialogs. You can also type expressions directly in the Edit Derived Category dialog and the Create New Variable Based On dialog.

Terminology
In this section, the terminology used is based on that in the Table Object Model. The following table relates a number of Table Object Model words and phrases to the equivalent features in the UNICOM Intelligence Reporter user interface.

Axis
The side or top of a table
Axis expression
Edits made to a variable
Element
A category in a variable, or one of the other items that can appear in a variable such as a mean, subtotal, and so on
Special element
Term used specifically to refer to the non-categorical items in a variable, such as a mean, subtotal, and so on
Concatenation
Adding multiple variables to the side or top of a table one after the other, without nesting
