ReadSoft FORMS mark fields options
UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add‑on Options: Mark Fields tab
The settings on the Mark Fields tab in the UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add‑on Options dialog determine the properties of the mark fields that are created in ReadSoft FORMS Manager when you run the Transfer to Scanning Software command in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add‑on.
Specify the options that you want for all or most mark fields. If any mark fields require different or additional property settings, go into ReadSoft FORMS Manager and make the changes manually after you have run the Transfer to Scanning Software command.
Must be filled-in
Causes ReadSoft FORMS Verify to display mark fields that have not been filled in.
Confirm
Causes ReadSoft FORMS Verify to prompt for confirmation of the interpreted value.
Mass verify
Causes ReadSoft FORMS to give mark fields the mass verify status. Fields with this status must be confirmed before they can receive a higher status.
Detect strikeouts
Causes ReadSoft FORMS to ignore fields if they contain more than the specified percentage of pixels. This means that fields that have been overfilled (for example, by crossing out), are treated as if it were not filled in at all.
Detect noise
Causes ReadSoft FORMS to ignore fields if they contain less than the specified percentage of pixels. This means that fields that have small dots or specks within them (for example, dirt and other unintentional marks), are ignored.
If too many
The action ReadSoft FORMS is to take if more mark fields have been filled in for a series of mark fields than the defined maximum allowed. (A series of mark fields represents all of the responses to a categorical question or to a subquestion in a grid question.)
Option
Description
Select manually
ReadSoft FORMS prompts you to select which fields are to be accepted and which are to be discarded.
Select first
ReadSoft FORMS automatically selects the filled-in fields in the order in which the fields were defined until the maximum number has been reached.
Select least filled-in
ReadSoft FORMS automatically selects the fields that have the palest shading until the maximum number has been reached. This is useful when dark shading is likely to mean that the field has been crossed out.
Select most filled-in
ReadSoft FORMS automatically selects the fields that have the darkest shading until the maximum number has been reached.
Illegal value
ReadSoft FORMS automatically gives the associated transaction field the value you specify in the Illegal Value box.
This option is not suitable for questionnaires that you will be exporting using the UNICOM Intelligence Data Model, because the DSCs that create these data sources cannot export the illegal values. You can, however, use this option if you are going to extract the questionnaire data using some other method.
Allow Illegal responses
ReadSoft FORMS suppresses the MaxValue for this field. Any multiple response answers to Single response categorical questions, and multiple response answers to Multiple response categorical questions where the number of responses given exceeds the number of responses allowed, will be auto-verified by the ReadSoft FORMS Verify module and will appear in the data.
If you choose this option you must also select Allow dirty data when exporting the scanned data from ReadSoft FORMS so that the illegal responses are exported to the output datasource.
This option is not compatible with exporting scanned data in SPSS SAV format: if a single response categorical question has multiple responses, the question will be left blank.
If too few
Defines the action ReadSoft FORMS is to take if fewer mark fields have been filled in for a series of mark fields than the defined minimum allowed. Choose from the following:
