Opening UNICOM Intelligence Author files in other applications
You can open questionnaire (.mdd) files that you create in UNICOM Intelligence Author with these UNICOM Intelligence applications:
▪UNICOM Intelligence Professional
▪UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Offline for Windows
Opening questionnaires in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server
You can open files created in UNICOM Intelligence Author using UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server activities including Build, View Survey Link, and Launch. For more information on uploading files, see

UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server does not support file names containing spaces. Therefore, when saving files that you create in UNICOM Intelligence Author for use in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server, use the underscore character instead of spaces.
If you transfer files between Build and UNICOM Intelligence Author, any changes that you make to a file in Build after activation result in a new version of the file being created, whereas changes to the file in UNICOM Intelligence Author are saved in the same version of the file.
Unsupported question types in Build
Build does not support the following question types and routing items:
▪yes/no (boolean) questions
▪date/time questions
▪blocks
▪loops
▪sections
▪compounds.
If you open a questionnaire file from UNICOM Intelligence Author that contains any of these items in Build, the unsupported items are flagged with a “no entry” sign and you cannot edit them.
Opening questionnaires in Translation Utility
You can open questionnaire files from UNICOM Intelligence Author in Translation Utility to add translations of the question and response text, and to add text for additional contexts. You can set up the new languages or contexts from within UNICOM Intelligence Author by using the Manage Languages and Contexts dialog (see
Manage Languages and Contexts dialog), or you can use the MDM Label Manager tool available with Translation Utility.

If you have UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper installed, you can open a questionnaire file using UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper, and then add page breaks, apply UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper Looks or Microsoft Word templates, and, if you have UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper/Scan Add-on, define the questionnaire as a scanning project. If you have the file open in UNICOM Intelligence Author, you cannot edit it in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper, but you can display its contents.
To open a questionnaire in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper
1 Save your questionnaire file in UNICOM Intelligence Author.
2 If you want to edit the file in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper, either close UNICOM Intelligence Author, open another file, or press Ctrl+N to close the file by opening a new blank file. If you only want to preview the content of the file in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper, you do not need to close it in UNICOM Intelligence Author.
3 Open UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper from the Windows Start menu: Programs > UNICOM Intelligence 7 > UNICOM Intelligence Paper.
4 On the UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper menu, click Load Questionnaire.
5 In the Load dialog, go to the location where you saved the questionnaire file, and then select the file.
6 In the Look Group field, select the look group that you want to use with the file.
7 In the Routings field, select the name of the routing that you created for use with UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper.
8 Change any other options as required, and then click Open.
UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper loads the questionnaire file and displays it using the formatting in the selected look group. You can then use the features of UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper to apply looks, set page breaks, and add any other formatting you require, before printing the questionnaire. When you create files in UNICOM Intelligence Author for use in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper, questions are displayed with the instruction text in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper. For example, if you set a range for a numeric question of 0-99 in UNICOM Intelligence Author, the question appears with the text “WRITE IN ANSWER WITHIN THE RANGE 0-99” in UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Paper.
