Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) dialing
The Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) is a Microsoft Windows API that allows Windows workstations to use telephone services. TAPI devices include modems, business telephone system (PBX) handsets, voice-enabled telephony devices, and dedicated hardware. This section describes TAPI dialing:
▪TAPI devices automatically dial the number on the interviewer’s phone (the interviewer does not need to manually key in the number).
▪TAPI devices can, for instance, be a modem in the interviewer’s workstation connected to the interviewer’s analog phone line that is used only for dialing but not for sending data.
▪The interviewer’s browser controls the TAPI device via a Microsoft ActiveX control. Each interviewer’s Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser’s must allow ActiveX scripting.
▪ActiveX controls are available via Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 or later, running under Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (x86 32-bit), Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 (x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions), Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (standard and R2, x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions), Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions), Microsoft Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions), Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions), or Microsoft Windows 8 (x86 32-bit or x64 64-bit, all editions). Note that Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 is only supported when upgrading from a previous UNICOM Intelligence version.
