Switching a primary server to a secondary server
You can switch a primary server to a SECONDARY state by issuing the following command:
ADMIN COMMAND 'hotstandby switch secondary'
The 'hotstandby switch secondary' command can be useful if two servers have switched states and you want to switch them back to their original states. For example, when the new secondary server comes back in service, you can switch the server back to the primary server and switch the new primary server back to the secondary server.
If the 'hotstandby switch secondary' command starts successfully, the following message is displayed:
Started the process of switching the role to secondary.
You can monitor the status of the switch by using the command 'hotstandby status switch'.
When you execute the 'hotstandby switch secondary' command, if the servers are not already connected to each other, the old primary server tries to connect to the old secondary server.
If the two servers are connected, they switch states. The old primary server becomes the new secondary server and the old secondary server becomes the new primary server.
