A database that was created in one mode, (Unicode or partial Unicode) cannot be changed to the other mode. If you need to convert a database from one mode to another, you can use the solidDB tools to export and reload your database, see Converting partial Unicode databases to Unicode.

If the database already exists in either mode and the database mode contradicts the value that was set with the parameter, General.InternalCharEncoding, the server startup fails with the following error message in solerr.out.
