The OV-04 Performer Composition (DM2x) diagram is a hierarchical diagram that maintains representational consistency with its underlying performer definitions.
In addition to the diagram, the Performer definition and its subtypes Organization (DM2), Person (DM2), System (DM2), Service (DM2), Interface (Port) (DM2), and ServiceInterface (DM2) have more properties added to their definitions. The new properties Component Of and Composed Of represent the organizational or other hierarchical structure of performers. They have been added as to not to interfere with other existing relationships between performers, such as, Supports and Supported By.
The diagram can be created from existing definitions, by dropping them on the diagram workspace, or by using the tools in the toolbar to create new definitions. Because the principal use of the diagram is to create hierarchical organizational structures, the toolbar provides access to drawing tools to create Organization and Person symbols directly. Use of other Performer types is a secondary and access to those symbols requires the user to click the down arrow on the Perform drawing tool in the toolbar to access them.
Because the diagram is hierarchical, symbols that are dragged under other symbols will “connect up” based on proximity and create Component Of or Composed Of relationships in the definitions. Conversely, definitions that are already related by Component Of or Composed Of relationships will, when dropped on this diagram type, form the corresponding hierarchical structure automatically.
Note The contents of the Component Of and Composed Of properties in all Performer definitions can optionally be displayed on diagrams using display mode.
