Integrating with IBM Rational DOORS
Background
Models of the Enterprise Architecture are built to satisfy requirements, and at the same time, requirements can be elucidated while you model various parts of the Enterprise Architecture. The System Architect DOORS Interface enables you to use the market leading Enterprise Architecture tool, System Architect and IBM Rational DOORS together to build and maintain an enterprise architecture and requirements for your organization.
The System Architect DOORS link enables you to send System Architect model artifacts to one or more “surrogate” modules in IBM Rational DOORS, where they can be linked with requirements.
Overview of the System Architect DOORS interface functionality
You can port System Architect modeling artifacts into IBM Rational DOORS so that they are viewable and so that traceability links can be created between them and IBM Rational DOORS objects. All linking of System Architect model artifacts to IBM Rational DOORS objects is done in IBM Rational DOORS, not System Architect. You can port instances of a symbol, a definition, or a diagram into IBM Rational DOORS. This includes line symbols.
When linked in IBM Rational DOORS, you can “update” System Architect and view the requirements that are linked with model artifacts in a System Architect encyclopedia: diagrams, symbols, and definitions in the System Architect Explorer and on the diagram workspace are annotated with IBM Rational DOORS triangular icons denoting that the model artifact has an outgoing or an incoming link to a requirement. You can also view a skeleton of the IBM Rational DOORS object in System Architect, and use its reporting system to view relationships between IBM Rational DOORS objects and model artifacts, using three reporting relationships: “links to”, “is to be sent to” and “has been sent to”.
Next Generation integration through OSLC
System Architect can be integrated with IBM Rational DOORS through OSLC.
For more information, see SA-DOORS Next Gen. integration through OSLC.
Workflows
There are numerous workflows that can be enacted using the System Architect DOORS Interface.
For more information, see Workflows.
Setting up the System Architect DOORS interface
The System Architect DOORS link works with IBM Rational DOORS 9.0 to 9.7.
For more information, see Setting up the System Architect DOORS interface.
Relationship constraints
System Architect objects are sent to formal modules in IBM Rational DOORS. You can specify that System Architect model artifacts are sent to multiple IBM Rational DOORS modules. You specify what IBM Rational DOORS module to send artifacts to by associating artifacts with a IBM Rational DOORS transfer unit definition in System Architect. The transfer unit is a definition type in System Architect. When you port System Architect artifacts to IBM Rational DOORS, you specify what IBM Rational DOORS surrogate module a IBM Rational DOORS transfer unit definition will be associated with. There is a one-to-one relationship between a IBM Rational DOORS transfer unit definition and a IBM Rational DOORS surrogate module.
