MODAF

You can use the Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF) feature to describe the architecture of a complex system. The MODAF feature provides modeling and reporting tools to build MODAF workproducts based upon structured analysis and design techniques.

The MOD Architectural Framework (MODAF) is the UK Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework. This framework has been designed for developing architectures that provide a means to model, understand, analyze and specify Capabilities, Resources, Systems, Systems of Systems (SoS), and Business Processes.

System Architect offers many optional drawing and tool behavior features. You can set preferences to optimize how System Architect reacts to your drawing commands when you create DoDAF products.

The All Views (AV) products provide information that relates to each of the other views of the architecture but do not present a distinct view of the architecture. AV products describe the scope and context, or vocabulary, of the architecture.

The Strategic View provides support for analysis and optimization of delivery of military capability according to strategic intent and equipment planning. You can develop Strategic View products to manage capabilities.

The operational architecture view describes the tasks, activities, operational elements, and information flows that are required for a military operation to take place. It describes what types and how often information can be exchanged, which tasks and activities are supported by the information exchanges, and the nature of information exchanges in order to establish specific interoperability requirements.

You can use the Service-Oriented Views (SOVs) to specify services that are to be used in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). The views focus on the requirements services fulfil by describing the specification of these services, how services are orchestrated together for a purpose, the capabilities that services deliver and how services are implemented.

The technical component of an architecture is the set of rules that governs system implementation and operation.

The Acquisition View describes the status of and relation between different programmes and projects, and how to deal with acquisition activities across different Defence Lines of Development (DLOD). There are two AcV Products: AcV-1 System of Systems Acquisition Clusters and AcV-2 Systems of Systems (SoS) Acquisition Programmes.

You can use MODAF utilities that generate diagrams, run reports, or import matrix data from Excel reports into the encyclopedia.
