Setting access control > System Architect Catalog Manager > Working with catalogs > Create a catalog

Create a catalog
Only a user with the role of Administrator and with create rights on the server can create a catalog. The list of servers on which you can create a catalog is stored locally, and it is automatically refreshed whenever you start System Architect Catalog Manager (SACM). You can also refresh it manually with the Search SQL Servers for Catalogs command under the Catalog menu.
Note It is a good idea to know the server name before creating a catalog. If you do not have the name, then the Catalog Manager searches the network for all servers to which your computer is connected. The network search might take a long time and it is possible that the server cannot be found because it is behind a firewall.
To create a catalog
1 If this is the first time that you are running the Catalog Manager
A message is displayed indicating that there are no catalogs registered to you on your computer. You will be prompted to begin a search for catalogs.
Click Yes if you do not know which servers are available. If a server is behind a firewall, you might need to enter their path and names manually.
Click No to create the catalog on a server that you specify. You should know the server path and name on which you will create the catalog.
2 If this is not the first time that you are running the Catalog Manager
Click Catalog and select Create.
3 Select or type in the name of the server on which you want to create a catalog, and then click OK.
The available servers are scanned one time on login, stored locally, updated on catalog creation and destruction, and refreshed on request.
4 Wait while the catalog is created. At the bottom of the SACM window, the status bar displays the status of the catalog creation, a progress bar, and a Cancel button. When the catalog has been created successfully, the status bar displays Done, meaning the catalog is ready for you to work with.
