Architecting and designing : MODAF

MODAF
You can use the Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF) feature to describe the architecture of a complex system. The MODAF feature provides modeling and reporting tools to build MODAF workproducts based upon structured analysis and design techniques.
MODAF overview
The MOD Architectural Framework (MODAF) is the UK Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework. This framework has been designed for developing architectures that provide a means to model, understand, analyze and specify Capabilities, Resources, Systems, Systems of Systems (SoS), and Business Processes.
For more information, see MODAF overview.
Migration from earlier product and MODAF versions
The goal of migration is for you to be able to continue to work in the current version of the product with projects that you developed in earlier versions.
For more information, see Migration from earlier product and MODAF versions.
Configuring encyclopedias for MODAF modeling
To support the Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF) modeling, you must customize a new or existing project encyclopedia by configuring the encyclopedia properties.
For more information, see Configuring encyclopedias for MODAF modeling.
Setting preferences for DoDAF modeling
System Architect offers many optional drawing and tool behavior features. You can set preferences to optimize how System Architect reacts to your drawing commands when you create DoDAF products.
For more information, see Setting preferences for frameworks modeling.
Creating All Views products for MODAF
The All Views (AV) products provide information that relates to each of the other views of the architecture but do not present a distinct view of the architecture. AV products describe the scope and context, or vocabulary, of the architecture.
For more information, see Creating All Views products for MODAF.
Creating Strategic View products
The Strategic View provides support for analysis and optimization of delivery of military capability according to strategic intent and equipment planning. You can develop Strategic View products to manage capabilities.
For more information, see Creating Strategic View products.
Creating Operational View products
The operational architecture view describes the tasks, activities, operational elements, and information flows that are required for a military operation to take place. It describes what types and how often information can be exchanged, which tasks and activities are supported by the information exchanges, and the nature of information exchanges in order to establish specific interoperability requirements.
For more information, see Creating Operational View products.
Creating Service-Oriented View products
You can use the Service-Oriented Views (SOVs) to specify services that are to be used in a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). The views focus on the requirements services fulfil by describing the specification of these services, how services are orchestrated together for a purpose, the capabilities that services deliver and how services are implemented.
For more information, see Creating Service-Oriented View products.
Creating technical architecture views products
The technical component of an architecture is the set of rules that governs system implementation and operation.
For more information, see Creating technical architecture views products.
Creating Acquisition Views products.
The Acquisition View describes the status of and relation between different programmes and projects, and how to deal with acquisition activities across different Defence Lines of Development (DLOD). There are two AcV Products: AcV-1 System of Systems Acquisition Clusters and AcV-2 Systems of Systems (SoS) Acquisition Programmes.
For more information, see Creating Acquisition Views products.
Running MODAF utilities
You can use MODAF utilities that generate diagrams, run reports, or import matrix data from Excel reports into the encyclopedia.
For more information, see Running MODAF utilities.
Running Word reports for MODAF
You can launch MODAF reports from the Reports menu. Reports assist you with the analysis and communication of MODAF products at various stages in their development.
For more information, see Running Word reports for MODAF.
