Generating OV-3 Information Exchange Matrix reports for MODAF
IERs identify who exchanges what information with whom, why the information is necessary, and in what manner. IERs identify the elements of war fighter information used in support of a particular activity and between any two activities. The node of the producing operational element and the node of the consuming operational element are identified. Relevant attributes of the exchange are noted. The specific attributes included are dependent on the objectives of the specific architecture effort, but may include the information media, such as data, voice, and video, quality, such as frequency, timeliness, and security, and quantity, such as volume and speed. Particular capabilities such as security level of communications may also be captured for each exchange. The emphasis in this product is on the logical and operational characteristics of the information, such as what information is needed by whom, from whom, and when.
When creating an OV-03 report it is important to note where exactly the information is sourced from. The following are the requirements needed in order to create an OV-03 Information Exchange Matrix report properly.
It requires a Logical Flow line drawn between Operational Nodes on an OV-02 diagram.
It requires an ICOM Arrow drawn between Operational Activities on an OV-05 diagram.
It requires the source Operational Node to have the source Operational Activity in its list of Operational Activities in order to identify the Source Activity in the generated report, and similarly for the Destination Activity.
All other columns in the generated report are sourced from properties of the Information Exchange referenced from the Logical Flow.
1 Click Reports > MODAF Reports.
2 Select the Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3) report.
3 There are two options to choose from when running the report By Definition or By Diagram. If selecting By Diagram you will have a dual listing of OV-2 Diagrams as well as OV-5 Diagrams. You must then select one diagram from each list to process a report.
4 Once you decide on the option make sure that the definitions or diagram types are highlighted in the list box, then select Run.
The OV-3 Operations Information Exchange Matrix report will appear as a Microsoft Excel Spread sheet. You may view, print or save this report using standard Microsoft methods.
