Creating NOV-1a High-level Operational Concept diagrams for NAF 3
The NOV-1a High Level Operational Concept Diagram allows you to describe the locations, targets, assets and organizations that are to be involved in a particular mission. Its main utility is as a facilitator of human communication, and it is intended for presentation to high-level decision makers.
1 Click File > New Diagram.
Note You can also click the New Diagram button.
2 Select the NOV-1a High-level Op. Concept Diagram from the Select All Methods dialog.
3 Type the name of the diagram.
4 Click OK.
5 In the new diagram, set the diagram properties and add symbols as needed.
Diagram properties
You can specify the following diagram properties:
Architecture Overview
Refers to the NAV-1 Overview and Summary Definition describing the overall plan of the project.
Mission Information
Mission Name and Operations Type
Type
Joint, Coalition, Service-Specific and Other
Geographic Information
You can add information regarding the area designation.
MODAF
You can specify quantifiable attributes and values in the scenario or use case represented in the OV-1 View. The values expressed define the performance of specific or multiple capability elements, and can be represented as either single values, or a range of values across a defined timescale.
Symbols
You can add the following symbols to the diagram:
Organizational Units
Provide information regarding the purpose of the mission and what type of military service will be involved.
Assets
Select which stereotype you want to display on the diagram. The following properties apply:
Mission Role
Target
Select which stereotype you want to display on the diagram. The following properties apply:
Area Designation
OV Type: Joint, Coalition, Service-specific, or other
Target Importance
Location
Provides information regarding where the mission will take place.
Communications Connection Lines
Provide information to Assets as to what action should be taken from the Organizational Units.
Trajectory Lines
Describes the aggressive connection between assets and the targets on the diagram.
