Selecting BPMN or IDEF notations for NOV-5 modeling (NAF 3)
You can select between two notations when modeling the NOV-5 view. The NOV-5 Activity Model describes the appropriate activities connected with the architecture, the data and information exchanged between activities, and the data and information exchanged with other activities that are outside the scope of the model, for example, external exchanges.
You can use the following two notations for NOV-5 modeling in System Architect:
▪The Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN).
▪The Integrated Computer-Aided Manufacturing (ICAM) DEFinition (IDEF) for Function Modeling (IDEF0) diagram and the IDEF3 Process diagram.
By default, the BPMN notation is used.
1 Click Tools > Customize Method Support > Encyclopedia Configuration.
2 In the System Architect Property Configuration dialog box, perform one of the following steps:
▪To use IDEF, select the IDEF0 and IDEF3 check box. BPMN must be cleared.
▪To use BPMN, select the BPMN check box; the IDEF0 and IDEF3 check box can be either selected or cleared.
▪To turn off OV-5 capability, clear the BPMN and IDEF0 and IDEF3 check boxes.
3 Click OK; then reopen the encyclopedia for the changes to take effect.
Note Regardless of whether using BPMN or IDEF notations for OV-5 modeling, logical flow definitions must exist and define the IEXs transferred. When using BPMN notation, a need line will not be identified for an activity flow unless a logical flow exists defining a relationship between the operational nodes concerned by the activity flow in the same direction, with the same information exchange referenced by the activity flow.
