Using the TOGAF modeling feature in System Architect, you can model the eight phases of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Architecture Development Method (ADM), and multiple steps of each phase, to design and deliver the Enterprise Architecture for your organization.
A TOGAF Enterprise Framework Browser enables you to navigate the phases and steps of TOGAF 9, and input information into the repository for each stage. To model the enterprise using TOGAF ADM, you bring to bear all of System Architect’s support for modeling the enterprise, including repository-based business modeling, UML, and data modeling. In addition, the following TOGAF-specific support is provided:
▪Core diagram types
▪Explorer diagrams with specific Explorer Object Reports, Explorer Relationship Reports, and Analytic collections accessed via the Heat Map Manager with each particular Explorer diagram type open to present Viewpoints of TOGAF
▪Core definition types
▪Simple and multidimensional matrices
▪Reports
Introduction to TOGAF
The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) is a framework and detailed method for building, maintaining, and gaining value from an enterprise architecture for an organization. TOGAF 9 is the latest version of the framework, and its accompanying Architecture Development Method (ADM).
To use TOGAF features, you must enable the TOGAF diagram and definition set. You can also open the TOGAF Framework Browser, which enables you to navigate the TOGAF information using the seven ADM Phases and the deliverables of each.
You can build TOGAF Viewpoints using Explorer diagrams. Explorer diagrams have a Type property that is used to specialize the diagram. Different Analytic Collections are presented in the Heat Map Manager based on the Explorer diagram type.
You can run TOGAF reports directly from the Reports menu. Reports assist you with the analysis and communication of TOGAF products at various stages in their development.
You can select the report settings for your generated Word document reports. You can also customize the installed DOT Word template files to generate a customized TOGAF report. The filenames of any modified files must be the same as the original template file.
Running technology portfolio catalog reports for TOGAF
When you enable integrated Reference Model Architect (iRMA), you can run the Technology Portfolio Catalog report. The Technology Portfolio Catalog uses the Technical Reference Model (TRM) reports provided by iRMA and available in the Reports menu.
