Creating class hierarchy diagrams
The Class Hierarchy diagram is built during Phase C: Information System Architectures of the TOGAF ADM. Although it is called the Class Hierarchy diagram in the TOGAF specification, users are free to use the Class definition on UML Class diagrams, or Entity definitions in Logical Data Models, to represent and model a logical view of data structures.
Prerequisite
This diagram presents the global interdependencies of logical data structures in the architecture: before building this diagram, you should already have created the following definition types as part of your architecture:
Entities in logical data models, or
Classes in UML Class diagrams
Procedure
1 Create a new diagram of type Explorer using standard techniques to create a new diagram.
2 In the TOGAF 9 Viewpoint property, select Class Hierarchy Diagram from the list.
3 With the diagram open and in focus, select View > Heat Map Manager to access the sets of analytics that you can run on the diagram to build the view.
4 From the Definition grouping of the Explorer (Browser), select and drag Entities (or Classes) you want to examine onto the diagram workspace.
5 Right-click an entity that you want to examine, and then click Show Immediate Relatives.
Next
You can generate ancillary Explorer Relationship reports. The following reports are generic and are available in the Heat Map Manager of all Explorer diagrams:
All Immediate Uses Relationships
Business Processes Related to Org Units
Diagram Depicts
