Focal Point® troubleshooting tests and tips
General tests in Focal Point®
You should know the following about working with the System Architect – Focal Point® integration:
Once you export from a profile, you can go to the Focal Point® website by logging in to the following URL:
<servername>:<portnumber>/fp/servlet/Login
The Views where the data has been exported to will show the data if the export succeeds.
You can check for the Rank attribute on the Focal Point® end. The Rank attribute will not have a value because it is only a placeholder when you export the first time. After applying Rank in Focal Point®, the attribute can be checked to see if values have been populated.
During the import operation, you can check the Application definition to see if the Rank property has been updated with the appropriate value from Focal Point®. This is true of any new property added in System Architect.
During login, if you enter the web service URL and Login credentials, and get a “Please check the URL” message, it indicates that the Workspace does not have the web service enabled.
If you do not have permission on Focal Point® Views (SA Criteria and SA Data), then the criteria and data views populated in the Workspace selection dialog will be empty.
Logging in
If while attempting to login, you get a “Please check the URL” message, the cause might one of the following:
The URL format is incorrect. The correct format is
<server name>:<portnumber>/fp/services/FocalPoint
The URL is not entered in the correct case, as shown above. The URL is case‑sensitive.
The Tomcat server hosting Focal Point® is not running. Start the service.
Webservice1.0 is not enabled. To enable, see To enable the web service
A firewall is restricting access to the particular URL. Configure the firewall to allow access to the Focal Point® WebService.
Exporting data
If some attributes are not exported successfully to Focal Point®, the cause may one of the following:
Attributes are not mapped in the data/criteria mapping screen. Edit the appropriate Focal Point® profile and map the attributes.
If the attributes are mapped and still not getting values then you need to check the access type of the attribute in Focal Point® and make sure all the attributes are editable. The following steps will help:
Login to Focal Point® website.
Click on Configure tab; click on Attribute link.
Click on the Module that contains the attributes.
On the corresponding attributes, click on set access (to the right, on the same row).
If it is not editable, then select editable and click on update Views.
When exporting existing profile from System Architect to Focal Point® using menu option: Send data from a previously saved Focal Point Profile > Export (Focal Point Profile "Application Portfolio Management". If you get an error such as:
"Conversion from String" " to type 'Double' is not valid. Please check the mapping"
it is an indication that you are not using the latest Focal Point® template file named Application Portfolio Management_SAFP.fpz that is provided with System Architect.
While exporting if duplicate (Application/Criteria) entries are created in Focal Point®, because the GUID attribute in Focal Point® is read-only. To resolve this problem, make the GUID editable in Focal Point®.
