Upgrading and migrating : Converting encyclopedias to current version : Encyclopedia conversion overview

Encyclopedia conversion overview
System Architect 11.4 automatically upgrades encyclopedias created in System Architect 10.7 and later. Beginning with System Architect 10.3 and later it creates new stored procedures and tables (for history), and makes changes to existing stored procedures in all encyclopedias. Because of this, encyclopedias created in versions 10.1, 10.0, or 9 must first be converted/upgraded for use in with System Architect 10.3 encyclopedia format before they can be automatically upgraded to the current version. As long as a person with a Systems Administrator role or the owner of the encyclopedia opens converted encyclopedia, the stored procedures will be properly created with an owner of dbo.
You should also consider following conversion items for older encyclopedias:
If you are converting an encyclopedia created with in System Architect, you must have the db_owner database role on the encyclopedia, so you can perform the XT Optimized Reader Conversion by running the System Architect Encyclopedia Manager (SAEM).
If you created custom macros that run off menu items with System Architect version 9 or 10.0, you will need to adjust them slightly for use in 10.1 and later. See Adjusting macros that run off menus in System Architect 10.1.
Opening a version 9 encyclopedia with version 10 requires the System Architect administrator to grant access rights to a new GetFileSize stored procedure.
The conversions for previous versions of the product to 8 are performed by invoking the conversion routine, which is accessed in System Architect by selecting Tools, Conversion (with any encyclopedia open). If you are converting an encyclopedia created with a previous version of System Architect (versions 6 or 7), a GUID/UML conversion will run and create a new, converted encyclopedia in a new path (the old encyclopedia remains intact).
If you are converting an encyclopedia created with a System Architect 4.0 product, a data-modeling/long-names conversion will run first to convert the encyclopedia to System Architect status, and the GUID/UML conversion will run second to take the resulting, converted encyclopedia and convert it to System Architect 8 status.
When upgrading encyclopedias created in System Architect version 10.4, you need to recreate the SAUser role. This is so the role has all the necessary privileges required for using encyclopedias in later versions of System Architect. To upgrade the SAUser role, start System Architect Encyclopedia Manager. On the Tools menu, click Create SAUser.
