Creating a static view
To construct static views, you need to open two Explorers so that you can drag items from one into the other. One Explorer should present to you all the items in the encyclopedia, so that you may pick and choose artifacts (diagrams and definitions) to drag into the Static View you are building in the other Explorer. When creating a Static View, items from the "classic" Explorer cannot be dragged onto the View.
The All pane displays all diagrams and definitions in an encyclopedia. Therefore, select the All pane as the source from which you will get the artifacts to add to your static views. The procedure below uses creating a Static View for diagrams as an example, but the procedure for creating Static Views for definitions is the same.
To create a Static View and add encyclopedia artifacts to it
1 In the main menu, click View > Explorer.
2 Click the My Views pane icon, at the bottom of the Explorer.
3 Click the Create a new dynamic or static view icon.
4 Enter a name in the Name field, for example Development.
5 In the View Type field, click Static, and then click OK.
6 In the main menu, click View > Explorer to display a second Explorer. Optionally, accommodate your Explorers so you can see the My View Pane (the target) and the All Pane (the source) side-by-side.
7 In the primary Explorer, select the My Views pane. In the secondary Explorer, select the All pane.
Note Although this step suggests using the All pane as the source from which to get encyclopedia items for your Static View, you can also create a refined Dynamic View that only shows a subset of diagrams or definitions. For example, you may create a dynamic view (see Creating a dynamic view) that only shows Entity Relation diagrams, then select the diagrams for your Static View from there.
8 From the All pane, select the diagrams you want to add to your Static View, named Development for this example.
9 Drag the selected diagrams from the All pane and drop them into a Static View in the My Views Pane, as shown below.
The static view now contains with the encyclopedia artifacts you selected.
