Install and configure database for Focal Point
Focal Point requires a database to save the data shared with the System Architect XT Server. Focal Point supports Oracle, DB2, and PostgreSQL database servers. For information on configuring Oracle or DB2 for this integration, contact your UNICOM support team. The distribution includes an installer for PostgreSQL, and is recommended for a quick setup.
To install the included PostgreSQL database server
1 Browse to the path you installed the System Architect XT/Focal Point Gadget Dashboard add-on, and then open folder \SA-FP Gadget Dashboard\Setup Files\PostgreSQL\.
2 You will find a 32-bit installer and a 64-bit installer. Double-click the appropriate installer for your computer and wait for the installer to load.
3 During the installation, you can (if you choose) accept all defaults.
The installer will ask you to specify a password. Take note of this password as you will need it to access the Admin Console and configure the integration. Also take note of the port you select, as it will also be necessary for configuring the integration.
4 When installation is complete, you will be asked if you would like to install StackBuilder. This tool is not necessary, so you may deselect it and click Finish.
5 From the Microsoft Windows Start, open pgAdmin to open the PostgreSQL administration tool.
6 Double-click on the default server listed. You will be prompted for a password – enter the password specified during the installation (see step 3).
7 Right-click Databases, and then select New Database. For the name of the database, enter focalpoint; for other values, you can accept defaults. Click OK.
8 Close the PostgreSQL administration tool (pgAdmin).
The database should now be properly installed and configured.
