Filter dialog box
You use the Filter dialog box to define new filters for your tables and to modify existing filters. You can also save filters to use as variables when you create tables.
In the top part of the dialog box you define the filter's name and description. You cannot change the name of an existing filter. When you create a new filter, UNICOM Intelligence Reporter - Survey Tabulation autogenerates a name. You can change the name if you want, but you must make sure that the name is valid. See
Naming conventions for more information.
Note that if you are using the hierarchical view of the data, you cannot change the
level of the filter after you have started defining the filter, so make sure you set the level before you start. You select the level using the
Level menu option on the menu on the right side of the dialog box. Note that if there is another filter defined for a table, there are restrictions on which level you can choose for a new filter. See
Filtering hierarchical data for more information.
On the left side of the dialog box below the name and description is the Variable List. Just like the Variable List in the Define tab, this lists the variables in your data set and it has the same features for sorting, finding variables, and changing the columns and types of variables that are displayed. See
The variable list for more information.
When you select a variable in the Variable List, the upper part of the right side of the dialog box varies according to the type of variable you have selected. You use this section of the dialog box to define the filter condition for the variable. See
Defining the conditions for more information.
Below this section is a menu, and beneath that are details of the conditions you have already defined. When you are using the Filter dialog box in normal mode, the conditions are displayed on separate lines. You can select a line to change or remove it. See
Combining conditionsfor more information. When you are using the Filter dialog box in advanced mode, the filter is shown in a text box as a raw filter expression, which you can edit.
In normal mode, the menu provides the following options:
Remove All
Removes the entire filter expression.
Remove Line
Removes one line of the filter expression. Select a line to remove before choosing this option.
Level
Select the level of the filter. This is relevant only if you are using the hierarchical view of the data. You cannot change the level after you have started defining the filter, so make sure you set the level before you start. Note that if there is another filter defined for a table, there are restrictions on which level you can choose for a new filter. See
Filtering hierarchical data for more information.
Displays the remainder of the menu options, including a Less>> option that you can use to hide the options again.
Validate
Validates the full filter.
View
Displays the filter as an expression. See
View Expression for more information.
Advanced Edit
Use the Filter dialog box in advanced mode. Note that once you are in advanced mode, you cannot return to normal mode for this filter. See
Advanced mode for more information.
