Location
A place where business activity takes place and can be hierarchically decomposed. Numerous TOGAF definition types can be specified to be at a Location – such as Organization Unit, Actor, Application Component, Technology Component, and so on.
Location can be visualized on the following diagram types:
Network Infrastructure diagram.
Application and User Location diagram.
Software Distribution.
Platform Decomposition.
Specifying Location of Applications and Technologies
According to the TOGAF specification, you can specify the Location that Physical Application Components and Physical Technology Components are deployed to.
System Architect extends TOGAF, enabling you to specify these entities:
Physical Application Component Versions of Physical Application Components.
What Device Instances, Server Instances, and Database Instances those Physical Application Component Versions are hosted on.
The Location of the Device Instance, Server Instance, and Database Instance.
Similarly, you can specify:
That a Physical Technology Component (which is considered by TOGAF to be a Version of a Technology) is hosted on a Device Instance, Server Instance, or Database Instance.
The Location of the Device Instance, Server Instance, and Database Instance.
