Integrating with Focal Point®
System Architect captures Enterprise Architect assets as diagrams and definitions. Focal Point®, used as a service within the Enterprise Architecture domain, with a focus on Application Portfolio management and prioritization. The integration between the products enables you to export those assets from System Architect to Focal Point®, which is used to prioritize and visualizes those assets based on a defined criteria. Focal Point®.
The same data that you export to prioritize and rank in Focal Point® can also be imported back into System Architect, where you can use the Heat Map Manager to apply ranking on application symbols in the diagrams. That is done through the Rank property in the Application definition, which is automatically updated when you import the data.
System Architect runs reports to gather data to export to Focal Point®. The information about which reports to run, the connections to the Focal Point® servers, and mappings to Focal Point® attributes are stored in profiles. A profile also stores information about the Focal Point® workspace and views a user can access (see also Focal Point® profiles overview). In System Architect, the profile is supported by the Focal Point profile and Focal Point mapping definitions. A predefined profile is provided, which you can use as a template to create your own profiles.
Focal Point® requirements
Focal Point® has these requirements for prioritization:
A set of elements that qualify for criteria against which data will be prioritized.
A set of elements that will qualify as data to be prioritized.
Separate Criteria and Data views. The Data View that has the data exported has a reference to the Criteria view against which the data will be prioritized. These views, and user information, are contained within a workspace.
Application definitions for data contained in System Architecture diagrams.
Webservice1.0 needs be enabled in Focal Point®.
System Architect requirements
To use this integration feature, you need a specific set of data obtained by running reports. For reports to retrieve information to export, an encyclopedia is required to have the following artifacts:
An Enterprise Direction diagram.
Business Objective definitions in the Enterprise Direction diagrams (for criteria).
Application definitions (for data), to be prioritized and visualized in Focal Point®.
For importing data back from Focal Point®, the Rank property needs to be defined to show rank in the System Architecture diagram, with the Heat Map Manager.
