Text attribute settings
A text attribute contains a text field.
 
Setting
Name and description
Value
You can configure the following settings:
Default Value: The value of the text attribute for a new element. You can edit this value before the element is saved.
Text Tag: The value that can be inserted into a text attribute by clicking the Text attribute icon icon next to the text field. The icon is displayed when the text attribute is in edit mode. The icon is hidden if there is no text tag value specified, or if the specified value is invalid. To preview the text tag, click the Preview text icon icon next to the Text Tag field.
The date and number format settings for the workspace user affect the display of the E and M tags.
Visual
You can configure the following settings:
Formatting: Opens a formatting panel for rich text editing in the Default Value text field. The formatting panel is available only when 2 or more rows exist. For more information, see Formatting editor. To remove the text formatting, select the text and use the options in the formatting panel.
If the Formatting check box is cleared, text can be formatted only by using the following tags: [B] for bold, [I] for italics, [U] for underlined, [S] for strike-through, [OL] for numbered list, [UL] for bullet list, [URL] for links.
The tags must be in uppercase letters.
Number of Rows: The height of the text field when the text attribute is being edited. Click on the Refresh icon to change the height of the text field based on the specified number of rows.Tip: Specify 5 rows for a small text field, 10-15 rows for a normal text field, and 15 or more rows for a large text field.
Number of Columns: The width of the text field when the text attribute is being edited. Click on the Refresh icon to change the width of the text field based on the specified number of columns.
Prefix: The text to be displayed before the text value.
Suffix: The text to be displayed after the text value.
Truncate Text: The text list attribute can be configured to display truncated text instead of the complete text. The Truncate Text list has options to truncate text after 50, 100, 200, or 500 characters. Click the icon next to the attribute name to view the complete text.
Allow Group By: Enables you to use the text attribute to group elements in a tree structure in the Display view.
Mandatory
You can configure the following settings:
Mandatory: Ensures that users specify a value for the text attribute. Mandatory attributes are displayed with an asterisk. Tip: To ensure that values are entered for the Title and Description attributes in an element, select the mandatory check box when configuring these attributes.
Mandatory settings do not apply when you add folders.
Feedback Text: The text to be displayed when the user does not specify a value for the mandatory attribute.
Confirm Dialog
You can configure the following settings:
Display Dialog: Displays a confirmation window when the text attribute is left empty.
Dialog Text: The text to be displayed in the confirmation window displayed when the Text attribute is left empty.
Change Log
You can configure the following setting:
Log Changes: Records a history log for each change in the attribute.
Integration
You can configure the following settings:
Property URI: Provide a unique URI according to the Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) standard for the attribute.
Alias: Specify the alias when you integrate with other tools.
Copy Default Value To All Elements
Copies the default value of the attribute to all of the elements in the module that contains the attribute. The previous values of this attribute are lost. On copying the default value to all the elements, a report is delivered to the user's mail ID if the mail settings are configured to receive such notifications.
This button is available only if the text attribute is configured with a default value.
