Working with the Heat Map Manager
To work with the Heat Map Manager, you should first open the diagram on which you want to execute analytics and then start the Heat Map Manager from the View menu. The Heat Map Manager displays a new analytic collection definition type, which is a sorted list of analytic definitions (see Analytic definition). When you associate an Analytic Collection with a diagram type, the Analytic Collection is displayed in the Heat Map Manager. You can select which analytic, from the collection that you want to run, or clear analytic information from the diagram and restore it to its state before you ran an analytic. From the Heat Map Manager, you can also execute Explorer Object and Explorer Relation Reports.
Other information to note about working with the Heat Map Manager includes:
If you switch to another diagram, the Heat Map Manager refreshes automatically to show only the heatmap types that are applicable to the newly opened diagram.
If you tick or untick an analytic for it to be run, and switch to another diagram, your check marks are retained and the Heat Map Manager refreshes automatically when you switch back to the first diagram. These states are only remembered for the current System Architect session.
How the Analytic is displayed on the Heat Map Manager is determined by whether you enter values in the Analytic Depiction properties (icon or color fill) in the Analytic definition. This works as follows:
If you enter an icon or a fill color value in the Analytic Depiction properties, the Analytic is displayed as a checkbox, followed by the Analytic name, and the icon or fill color that you entered (see image above). Additionally, if you enter an icon and a fill color in the Analytic Depiction, the fill color is ignored and only the icon is shown is the Heat Map Manager. You run check box type analytics by ticking or unticking the analytic and clicking Apply.
If you do not enter an icon or a color fill in the Analytic Depiction properties, the Analytic is displayed in the Heat Map Manager as a button, with the Analytic name on top of it. You run button type analytics by clicking the button.
If a heatmap contains check box and a button type analytic, the Heat Map Manager displays a message informing you so and then displays both types in the same heatmap.
If the currently open diagram is an Explorer diagram, all the Explorer Object reports and the Explorer Relationship reports are shown as buttons in the Heat Map Manager. Clicking a button executes the report on the current diagram.
In the Heat Map Manager, you can also use the Analytic Builder Wizard to create analytics that are report-based.
